Active recovery is an essential part of any training program, and it's your time to choose something that brings you happiness.

Engaging in low-intensity exercises or activities promotes blood flow helping with muscle repair and reducing muscle soreness.

Here are some of my favourite ways to spend my Sunday while being active:

NATURE WALKS

You can't beat a walk in nature, and in the Hills District, we are surrounded by beautiful walking tracks. My two favourites would have to be Cumberland State Forest at West Pennant Hills and Fagan Park Galston. Grab your sneakers, a partner or friend and a picnic to enjoy the great outdoors!

FRUIT PICKING

A fun day trip to the farm is a great way to include physical activity like walking, bending, stretching and reaching. The best part, your reward is delicious fresh fruit! For this season's best Mandarins, be sure to visit Watkins Family Farm at Wisemans Ferry.

CYCLING

Cycling at a low intensity helps to relax and loosen up the muscles. It can aid in alleviating muscle tightness and reducing post-workout muscle soreness by providing gentle movement and stretching. It is also a great low-impact exercise placing minimal stress on joints.

SWIMMING

Water-based activities like swimming is an excellent low-impact option for active recovery. The water's buoyancy reduces the impact on joints while providing resistance for muscle engagement.

CASUAL SPORT

Why not meet up with some friends or grab your kids for a friendly game of basketball, tennis or golf? These activities can provide a fun way to move your body without putting excessive strain on your muscles.

STRETCHING

Participate in a gentle stretching routine to improve flexibility, relieve muscle tension, and promote relaxation. For a free stretch class video head over to my YouTube channel https://youtu.be/KAjeTFwbavE.
